Our team of 3 Northwestern EDI students partnered with Arity to design data enabled features and modalities within an existing app to add value for all stakeholders (including the user, Arity, and the partnered app-- Roadtripper). 

Creating a more enjoyable road trip experience for travelers and encourages them to share location data and affords Arity a valuable partnership.

Arity is a global technology company focused on making transportation smarter, safer, and more useful for everyone. Arity transforms large amounts of driving data into actionable insights to help better predict risk and make smarter decisions in real-time.

We sought to understand their daily habits with travel, trip habits, and location sharing motivations

Roadtrippers is a web and mobile application and content provider that helps travelers plan road trips.

How might we create new experiences that make getting around smarter, safer and more useful when sharing location and activity data?

TRAVEL JOURNEY + INSIGHTS

Based on our interviews, we mapped out the users' emotions and insights within their travel journey, which was key to setting their expectations about the aspirational emotional state we were aiming to design for.

Purple means the emotion changes during each activity: the darker/higher the happier

GAPS

By deep dive into the current user experience and journey in Roadtrippers, we found there are 3 major gaps:

Travel destination/plan research takes long time
